How Do We Worship?

You will experience much at the Church of the Advent with which you may not be familiar.  We use incense and formal ceremonial, chanting of texts, singing of hymns and other musical selections; a whole host of sights, sounds and smells which we believe is appropriate to enhance and mystify the worship of God.  All your senses will be engaged while at Mass.

For the first-time visitor, liturgy may be exhilarating… or confusing. Liturgical worship can be compared with a dance: once you learn the steps, it becomes satisfying to dance, again and again, as the music changes.

The Church of the Advent is a parish in what is known as the "Anglo-Catholic" or "High Church" tradition.  What this means basically is we ascribe very seriously to our Anglican heritage of Catholic worship and belief.

If you are not familiar with our way of worship, don't be afraid of participating as best you can.  As you become familiar with the progression of the liturgies you will become more comfortable and find yourself entering more deeply into your own personal worship.  There are, of course, always people around you who can help out if you get lost or answer questions for you!
